      FAQs:

HOW DID YOU GUYS GET STARTED?
We met at a company called Imaginary Forces in LA. For each of us, it was our first job out of school and we were working on main titles for films, film marketing and commercials, as well as designing interior spaces and interactive experiences. We both started there because it was a great back door into the film business. Within months of working at IF, we got to work with clients like Ridley Scott and Rob Reiner. This was insane for fresh-out-of-college guys. All of that experience combined into our first major collaboration on Minority Report.

HOW DO YOU GUYS GET TO DO PROJECTS THAT INVOLVE SO MANY PARTS?
No matter what the project is, our process is always the same. We think about the core nugget of an idea or a story, really develop that and then start to fill in the other gaps. Our process has always been multi-faceted. We have always drawn our inspiration from a lot of different sources: film, design, architecture, photography, comic books, etc. We pull out all the stops in our presentations and often make animatics, or short videos, to illustrate what we’re trying to accomplish. We show tons of reference. We use all of these parts in our presentations as our proof-of-concept. We try our best to show our collaborators what we’re thinking, instead of trying to describe it.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO DIRECTING FEATURE FILMS?
It was something we always wanted to do. We had just finished our work on Minority Report - we called that our “prep school” for doing a feature - we had made it through the two year movie making process, created something really special in the end and most importantly, didn’t kill each other along the way. It was now time to try and do our own movie. Through a mutual friend, we met our manager who started showing our reel to production companies. We got a response from Summit Entertainment on a script called “The Alibi” pretty quickly. We thought about it for 2 seconds and said “Yes.” It was our first movie pitch and “The Alibi” just clicked creatively with what we wanted to do for our first movie - to put our own spin on a character driven genre film.

WHERE DID YOU GET THE NICKNAME "BLACK & DECKER"?
On our first day on set for Minority Report, Steven couldn’t find us and couldn’t remember our names. After rattling off a few wrong ones, he yelled “Where’s Black & Decker!?!?” It was our nickname for the project and it’s stuck ever since.
